PCB barred Yousuf, Younis; Malik banned for 1 Year
Pak cricket was thrown into turmoil with the country's Board putting an end to the international careers of former captains Mohd Yousuf and Younis Khan besides imposing a one-year ban on Shoaib Malik in the wake of the team's disastrous tour of Australia. Pakistan were whitewashed in all three formats of the game in Australia and the PCB had set up an inquiry committee headed by Wasim Bari to probe the reasons for the debacle. As recommended by the committee, former captain Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan were handed one-year bans. The inquiry committee had recommended that Yousuf and Younis should no longer be part of the national team in any format because of their bad influence on the team and that Malik and Rana be banned for 12 months and fined 2 million rupees each.
The Akmal brothers Kamran and Umar and Afridi have been put on probation for six months besides being fined between Rs 2-3 million for indiscipline on the tour, the PCB statement said. The punishments are set to impact the composition of Pakistan's World Twenty20 Championship.

Rajya Sabha passes Women's reservation bill
Rajya Sabha on Tuesday passed the historic Women’s Reservation Bill that reserves 33 per cent legislative seats in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies. 14 years after the first attempt was made in the Lok Sabha and repeated failures subsequently, the Constitution amendment bill was adopted in the mandatory division with 186 members voting for it and one voting against. In the 245-member House with an effective strength of 233, the bill required the backing of at least 155 members and the UPA had the clear support of 165 in the run up to the event.
The bill seeks to reserve for women 181 of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha and 1,370 out of a total of 4,109 seats in the 28 State Assemblies. Ruling UPA constituent Trinamool Congress, which has two members, kept away from voting, while 15-member BSP, which has opposed the bill in its present form, walked out before voting. JD(U), whose present Sharad Yadav is a staunch opponent of the bill, appears to have backed the bill fully with most of its 7 members voting for it in response to the call by one of its senior leaders and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

SP, RJD withdraw support to UPA on Woman's Bill
Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal have decided to withdraw support to the United Progressive Alliance government. The SP, Bahujan Samaj Party and RJD members strongly opposed the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, with one of them even trying to climb the Speaker's podium, leading to adjournment of the House till lunch. The Bill, slated to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha, created storm in the Lok Sabha soon after Speaker Meira Kumar welcomed a Croatian delegation and read out a reference on International Women's Day. The moment Kumar called for Question Hour, SP, BSP and RJD members trooped into the well demanding quotas for Other Backward Class, Dalit and Muslim women within the proposed law to reserve 33 per cent seats in Parliament and State assemblies for women. The Speaker refused to adjourn the House and carried on with the Question Hour. SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav gestured his party members to move forward and himself marched to the Well from the side of the treasury benches. Dara Singh Chauhan (BSP) and Lalu Prasad and Umashanker Singh (both RJD) followed Yadav. At this moment, Mithilesh Kumar (SP) tried to climb the table placed in front of the Speaker prompting Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee to request Yadav to control his members. On the SP chief's directive, the members retreated a bit but stayed put in the Well and continued to raise slogans. The Speaker then adjourned the House till 1400 hrs.
